Panasonic scraps Jungle handheld

"My inclination would be to say a system like theJungle is a non-starter right out of the gate. Until they can show meotherwise I just don’t think Panasonic has the right pieces to compete inthis space.”

The Jungle is a highly specialised dedicated portable for a non-existent market. This is an unprecedented hardware strategy, and probably for good reason. Frankly, this looks like a non-starter.”

Those comments, from DFC Intelligence’s David Cole and M2 Research’s Billy Pidgeon respectively, were issued one day after Panasonic revealed its new handheld games machine Jungle in October of last year.

Who said analysts always get it wrong?

Reuters reports that Panasonic has today confirmed the cancellation of the Jungle project altogether.

"Panasonic decided to suspend further development due to changes in the market and in our own strategic direction," a company statement said.
