PEGI rated 1,200 fewer games in 2013 than it did in 2009

1,542 games were rated by PEGI last year – that’s 1,208 fewer than were rated than back in the heady days of 2009.

It also represents a continued decrease in the number of traditional titles hitting the High Street, with 2,538 rated in 2010, 2,214 in 2011 and 1,813 in 2012.

The percentage of 18 rated games was up slightly, however, from 9.4 per cent in 2012 to 9.7 per cent last year, during which 149 games were given the highest rating.

PEGI 3 remains the most applied rating (30.5%) followed by PEGI 7 (24%), PEGI 12 (21.2%) and PEGI 16 (14.6%).

‘Violence’ was the most common content description in 2013, being applied to 59 per cent of all games rated. This was followed by ‘Online’ (29%), ‘Bad Language’ (22%) and ‘Fear’ (10%).

No games were given the ‘Discrimination’ of ‘Drugs’ description last year.
