Microsoft's VP of Interactive Entertainment Phil Harrison is leaving the company, a report has claimed.

Games Industry says it has word from multiple sources, although officials such as Xbox boss Phil Spencer and ID@Xbox head Chris Charla have refused to comment when challenged at GDC.

The site says that Harrison grew frustrated” following the departure of his friend Don Mattrick and the subsequent promotion of Phil Spencer to head of Xbox.

Harrison surprised the entire industry when he joined Microsoft in 2012. He rose to prominence in the industry thanks to his 16 year stint at PlayStation, during which he rose to the role of Sony Worldwide Studios boss.

That role was handed to current Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida upon Harrison's departure in 2008.

A week after leaving Sony Harrison surprised the world once again by being named as the president of Atari, although he vacated the role a little over a year later.
