PlayStation VR can be used with non-virtual reality PS4 games in ‘cinematic mode’

Sony’s brand new PlayStation VR tech will be able to play games and watch video that were not designed for virtual reality.

In a press release – as reported by Polygon – PlayStation announced that the tech has a cinematic mode which allows users to play games and watch video on a large virtual screen within the headset.

Said screen can be up to five metres in width.

PlayStation 4 games and videos, in addition to Share Play and Live from PlayStation can be experienced this way. Furthermore, users will be able to experience 360 degree photos and videos.

PlayStation VR was given a price point and a launch window at an event in San Francisco yesterday. The hardware will cost 349 in the UK and is hitting shelves in October. A bundle including PlayStation Camera and Move controllers is launching in America, too.
