Playtonic’s Yooka-Laylee meets £175k Kickstarter goal in 40 minutes

The crowdfunding campaign for Playtonic’s new 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee has already surpassed its funding goal of 175,000, less than an hour after it began.

The game is developed by ex-Rare developers and is billed as the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. It stars a chameleon named Yooka and a bat called Laylee as its main characters, and features similar mechanics to the classic N64 game, where players must use the duo’s unique abilities to make progress and solve puzzles.

A crowdfunding campaign for the title only began at 5pm, but its funding target has quickly been smashed, with the title well on track to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds. It still has some way to go to beat one of the top UK crowdfunded titles however: Frontier’s Elite Dangerous raised more than 1.5m.
