Pokemon Go arrives in India

Niantic’s world conquering Pokemon Go has now arrived in the world’s second most populated country.

As of today, trainers living in India and other South Asian countries including Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh can download Pokemon Go and explore their neighbourhoods in search of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and many other Pokemon,” the company said.

To our trainers in India – we appreciate your patience during the last few months while we worked on bringing Pokemon Go to your country. The Niantic team had to resolve a few administrative challenges before launching in order to ensure we could provide the best experience possible.”

The time is now yours! Go out, explore, and find Pokemon in the real world.”

Of course, like many people in officially unsupported countries, many Indians have already been playing the game by using assorted workarounds to unofficially install it. The game had even before release caused a bit of a hullaballoo in the country when some religious leaders called for a ban after trainers were found hunting eggs in places of spiritual significance.

To date Pokemon Go has been downloaded by some 600m+ people.
