It might not be the Pokemon Stars title for Switch fans were hoping for, but Nintendo confirmed today that two new Pokemon titles are heading to 3DS this November.
Entitled, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon, these titles offer an alternate story to the original Sun and Moon titles despite taking place in the same world of Alola. Both games will also feature new Pokemon which didn't appear before.
"There will be additional elements to let you enjoy your adventure even more," director Junichi Masuda said in today's Nintendo Direct broadcast. "These are definitely versions perfectly suited for the title 'Ultra.'"
Little else is known about Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon right now, but both titles seem to be very much in the same vein as previous 'third' Pokemon titles like Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum, offering a slightly different take on the adventure fans know and love. Instead of releasing just one additional title, however, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be following in Black 2 and White 2's footsteps as two respective entries.
Both titles will launch worldwide on November 17th 2017, with more details to come later this year.
The base versions of Sun and Moon have been a tremendous success for both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company so far, selling 1.5m units in their first week in Europe and 15.44m worldwide by the end of March this year.
They're currently the second best-selling 3DS titles in the platform holder's history - sitting just behind their Pokemon X and Y siblings in terms of overall sales - and the launch of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon look set to only propel them to even greater heights. Indeed, The Pokemon Company revealed last week that its net sales had risen a massive 2,458 per cent year-on-year off the back of Pokemon Go and Pokemon Sun and Moon.
