Pre-owned app heading to iPhone

Fast-growing pre-owned games specialist Game Trading Technologies has lifted the lid on a brand new iPhone app that will allow users to monitor the price of their games collection and easily locate the nearest store where they can trade their titles in.

Called GameBook Mobile, the app allows iPhone or iPod touch owners to upload their entire games collection. This can either be done manually or by taking a picture of the barcode with the iPhone’s camera.

GTT’s database currently includes in the region of 10,000 games.

Furthermore, users are able to buy or sell games via their handset. The location of the nearest compatible retailer will also be displayed. Alternatively, trade-in partner stores will take in titles in exchange for gift cards from specific retailers.

Also available is a Trade Trends tool that indicates whether a user’s collection is trending upwards or downwards in value, with the aim of suggesting which titles are worth holding on to.

There exists pricing and demand volatility in the market for pre-owned video games and gaming systems,” GTT president Todd Hays stated.

We have specifically designed GameBook Mobile for those millions of video gaming consumers so that they are able to make timely, well informed trade-in decisions for every title, system, and accessory they own.”

Though there are no details regarding exactly whioch retailers will participate in the scheme, GTT has existing relationships with Best Buy, Wal Mart, Toys R Us and 7-Eleven.
