Final Fantasy XI producer Hiromichi Tanaka has announced his exit from Square Enix.
The veteran designer declared his departure from the company during Vanafest 2012, a 10-year anniversary event for FFXI.
Famitsu reports the resignation is due to health issues as Tanaka is suffering from a ‘major illness' which wasn't clarified beyond that description. Tanaka added a desire to work as a ‘single creator' on future projects.
Tanaka's experience dates back to mid-80's, where he worked on several RPG hits including the original Final Fantasy, FFII, III, and IV, along with Chrono Cross and Xenogears.
Akihiko Matsui, currently part of the Final Fantasy XIV staff, will assume Tanaka's position.
