PUBG mobile soft launches in the West, with Canadian Play store launch

It seems like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile is finally coming to Western audiences. Mobile PUBG, created in partnership with Chinese tech megacorp TenCent, has been soft launched on the Canadian Google Play store.

The game is billed as the "officially licensed PUBG on mobile" and if it’s the version that’s currently available on mobile app stores and was revealed in footage in February, it’s an impressive recreation of the game. I myself got to play the game, albeit in a different language, on a phone while at dinner while at IEM Katowice recently, and it’s a surprisingly full version of the game, if you can get past the touch controls.

Here’s a trailer, which could probably run on the SyFy channel as a made for TV action movie starring Scott Adkins

Tencent and PUBG Corp haven’t made any official comments, but for now players with access to the Canadian Play store and an Android phone can give it a go. Our sources have suggested an iOS launch could follow in the near future, but nothing has yet materialised.

Hopefully official word of PUBG’s mobile iteration will come soon, so we can see if the game can make megabucks on mobile devices, too.
