The biggest games magazines in North America and Europe are to launch in the UK, MCV can reveal.
GameStop-owned Game Informer is about to start selling digital subscriptions to UK gamers via its gamestop.co.uk estore.
Meanwhile, Gamereactor is to launch both digital and physical magazines, with the
latter distributed as a freesheet via the High Street and universities.
Game Informer is best known for being closely involved in unveiling new games. Adding a UK audience will grow the scope of its influence.
It finds much of it audience through distribution via GameStop stores and members of the chain's Power Up Rewards program. The magazine is produced in the USA.
Associate publisher Rob Borm told MCV: For more than 22 years, Game Informer has grown to meet the demand of an ever-widening group of readers.
"The launch of our monthly digital magazine in the UK and other regions outside the US is a natural progression for Game Informer, and we are excited to serve this wider global audience."
Game Informer Digital is the best selling digital magazine in the United States. The print magazine it adapts for tablets and browsers has a 8.1m circulation in the USA.
Subscriptions to Game Informer are already live at Gamestop.co.uk for just under 15.
As for Gamereactor, the magazine is one of the biggest games publications in Europe.
It is already available for free in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Germany. These various SKUs have a combined readership of over 300,000. The Danish version has been running since 1998.
Insiders say Gamereactor will launch this month in the UK with a print run of 80,000 copies.
The magazine will be made available for free through major retailers, independent stores, and some universities and colleges.
The magazine will be ‘near monthly' with eight to ten issues per year, matching the publishing schedule of its sister mags in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany.
The creation of a UK magazine ties in with the 100th issue of the Nordic version.
