Research: PS4 buzz higher than Xbox One, but GTA V hype is stealing the limelight

More people are talking about PS4 than Xbox One, says communications firm Way To Blue.

The firm’s stats reveal that ‘mentions’ of PS4 on Twitter, news sites, forums and blogs stand at 5.24m, while Xbox One lags behind in second place with a still decent 3.99m mentions.

But it is Grand Theft Auto V that is threatening to steal the limelight from the next-generation with over 2m mentions. An impressive number when you consider this is just a game we are talking about and not a new hardware launch.

Out of these ‘mentions’ the ones that indicate an ‘intention to buy’ stands at 339,365 for PS4, 259,203 for Xbox One and 69,769 for GTA V.

Wii U is in fourth place with 1.54m mentions with 66,839 ‘intent to purchase’ mentions.

Marc Berry Reid, associate director for Entertainment at Way To Blue said: I’m sure the first parties will have plenty more punches to throw over the coming week, but the industry can’t fail to ignore that GTA V has gained more momentum and attention than maybe we had anticipated during what’s already one of the most action-packed years the industry has seen. We can’t wait to see what Q3 and Q4 2013 has to deliver.”
