Resident Evil 2 impresses at retail, biggest Capcom launch since Resi VII

The remake of 1998’s Resident Evil 2 entered the UK weekly charts directly at No.1, to very healthy sales. Launch sales were down 18 per cent compared to 2017’s Resident Evil VII but that would largely be down to the shift to digital sales.

Resident Evil 2 is the biggest launch of the year so far, though that’ll be put to the test as soon as Anthem releases on February 22nd. It is also Capcom’s biggest launch since Resident Evil VII. That includes beating Monster Hunter World’s launch then, with Resident Evil 2 shifting 28 per cent more copies that the 2018 hit did at launch.

Meanwhile, the rest of the charts were relatively uneventful. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, which debuted at No.1 last week, had a good second week, with sales only being down 51 per cent week-on-week. It managed to remain in the Top Ten, at No.7.

Elsewhere, Just Cause 4 benefitted from a price cut and re-entered the charts at No.22 with a 93 per cent increase in sales. Also re-entering the Top 40 were Shadow of the Tomb Raider (No.34) following a 90 per cent boost in sales week-on-week, and Astro Bot Rescue Mission (No.38), with a 130 per cent increase in sales.

Here’s the Top Ten for the week ending January 26th (data courtesy of GfK/Ukie):
