Capcom’s new Resident Evil title was January’s best-selling boxed release.
The survival horror release shot to No.1 despite only being on shelves for four days including in this sales data (chart ran from January 1st to 28th). The PS4 SKU was the single best-selling release of the month, too.
Resident Evil 7 also helped Capcom increase its market share for the month. In the software sales publisher ranks, the firm rose from No.18 to No.6 and was behind 7.9 per cent of sales.
In terms of revenue, the Japanese firm had the second highest market share, up from the 18th in December, and was behind 11.7 per cent of boxed revenue.
EA topped both the revenue and unit sales publisher ranks thanks to the continue success of FIFA 17 and Battlefield 1.
The seventh numbered Resident Evil title outsold Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which came in at second place with sales diping 85 per cent month-on-month.
Grand Theft Auto V came in at No.3 this month, 41 months after it originally launched in September 2013. The title returned to the No.1 for two weeks in January, largely due to the influx of new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners and its low price.
FIFA 17 charted at fourth place, though when SuperData’s digital figures for the month come in we wouldn’t be surprised to see the football chart higher due to its lucrative Ultimate Team mode.
Meanwhile the boxed version of Psyonix’s Rocket League – handled by 505 Games – came in at eighth place despite a 71 per cent sales decline.
And in tenth place is Ubisoft’s new winter sports IP Steep.
Overall, the market was down year-on-year. £35.18m was made in software revenue for the month, a dip of 2.95 per cent on January 2016. Unit sales saw a bigger decline, falling 6.3 per cent to 1.24m boxes shifted.
