Retail Angry Birds reaches new fans

The PS3, 360 and 3DS versions of Angry Birds should pull in people who have never played the games before.

Developer Rovio says the Trilogy pack, published by Activision last Friday, will also act as a ‘collector’s edition’ for existing fans. It debuted at No.16 in the UK charts today, proving that a new audience for the titles certainly does exist.

We wanted a collector’s edition aspect for people who’ve played it already,” said executive producer Kalle Kaivola. However, I think a lot of people will experience Angry Birds for the first time via this, even if it’s not the person who buys the game. It could be a parent, sibling, roommate or friend sharing the couch with them.”

Kaivola says Rovio had overwhelming requests to take the primarily iOS series to consoles. And that retail has been crucial in establishing the IP.

Our games are known for their digital existence. However, we have far more products in retail than with digital. We have a very significant retail business.”
