PS4 owners' wait for Rise of the Tomb Raider will soon be over.
The current Xbox and PC exclusive will be released on PS4 on October 11th, and will complete with some new virtual reality content for PlayStation VR.
Furthermore, developer Crystal Dynamics has promised that the PS4 edition will be the best version to date.
When we were planning the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, our very first imperative was to out-do anything we'd done before; such as our definitive editions. A mere ‘Game of the Year' wouldn't satisfy us or our fans,” Crystal Dynamics studio co-head Scot Amos said.
We knew that the PlayStation community both deserved and demanded more than that. So we're working with our long-time partner Nixxes Software to make this release truly special.”
The new content, which can be played with or without VR, will take place inside Croft Manor, which players will explore. There's also talk of Lara fending off an undead invasion”.
Also included is a new online co-op Endurance Mode and some outfits from past entries in the series. Players will also be able to play out the main story with one of five classic Lara character models. Added Amos: You won't believe your eyes when you see the original low-poly Lara model in glorious high fidelity Rise of the Tomb Raider cut-scenes.”
A new difficulty setting, called Extreme Survivor, is also present, which strips out all of the checkpoints and puts more emphasis on gathering resources to survive. All previous DLC will also be included.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was unveiled as an Xbox exclusive back in August 2014, although the exact terms of the exclusivity weren't immediately presented. And parts of the fanbase were far from happy, despite corporate protestation. Square Enix later came out and credited Microsoft for the support it offered the game's development.
