Rockstar has removed trillions of dollars from the GTA Online economy after taking away any cash made through mods or hacks.
Any illegitimately gained in-game money has been removed from players' accounts, with some accounts being reset to $0. This has mainly been targeted at those who have used external mods or hacks to boost their accounts, although some people have reported that money they got from exploiting glitches has also been removed.
While many have reported that their accounts have been emptied, Rockstar has assured people that any money gained legitimately in game is safe, as is any money purchased with real world money through Shark Cards.
To keep the gameplay environment fair we have removed illegitimately gained in-game money from player accounts,” said Rockstar on its support page. If you received an alert saying that your shared bank balance was adjusted, that is because you had illegitimate funds in your account. GTA$ purchased via Shark Cards will remain on the account and are not affected by illegitimately gained in-game money removal.”
Rockstar also updated its online suspension policy, stating that anyone who receives a temporary ban will have all their GTA Online progress wiped. Repeat offenders will then be faced with a permanent ban.
