Round-up: NASSCOM Game Developer Conference 2013

The 2013 edition of the NASSCOM Game Developer Conference was held in Pune over the weekend, with an attendance of over 1,000 industry professionals.

While Vlambeer’s Rami Ismail was a last minute cancellation, talks from the likes of Year Walk and Device 6 co-creator Magnus Gordon” Gardebck more than made up for it. Check back for our interview with Gordon later this week.

Experimental games developer Paolo Pedercini couldn’t make it to NGDC either on account of visa issues, but his video keynote, discussing some of his games and his game design philosophies, was one of the highlights of this year’s conference.

It’s been over a year since Square Enix set up an India office and chairman Yoichi Wada delivered the conference’s opening keynote. He outlined Square Enix’s plans in India and hoped that games would one day grow become as popular in India as Bollywood. We had a chance to sit down with Wada-san at NGDC, so be sure to check back for our interview soon.

Magnus Gordon” Gardebck talked about the journey of Simogo

Other highlights from this year’s conference included Anshu Mor’s keynote highlighting Microsoft’s aggressive push towards localised content on Windows Phone, Windows 8 and Xbox; Julie Heyde’s #IndiaGameDevs PR jam; Tanmay Chinchkar’s talk on the journey of Project Heera; and the first ever NASSCOM Gaming Forum Awards presentation.
