RPG Bravely Second debuts in the top spot in Japan

Square Enix’s sequel to 2012’s Bravely Default goes straight to No.1 in the Japanese charts, according to market data provided by Famitsu.

The RPG game sold 97,220 units in the region, nearly three times the unit sales of this week’s second place, Style Savvy 3. That title was No.1 last week, but falls to No.2 as sales decline 56 per cent week-on-week.

The success of 3DS title Bravely Second could have contributed to the steady sales of Nintendo’s New 3DS XL last week.

But it’s the PS4 that continues to rule the hardware charts. Sales of Sony’s latest console rose 36 per cent week-on-week. This rise could have been driven by the slew of new PS4 titles in the chart this week.

There are three new games for the platform in the chart, including this week’s fourth place, Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II and BlazBlue: Chrono Phatasma Extend, which debuted in sixth place. The latter game also launched in PlayStation 3, which went straight to No.3.
