Rumour: China to lift console ban

After 13 years, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft may soon be able to sell their consoles in China.

The condition is that these platform holders must make these machine’s in the new Shanghai free trade zone, reports the South China Morning Post.

The move has even been endorsed by Premier Li Keqiang.

Back in 2000, China banned console games because the Government was concerned about violent content and their impact upon young people. That is still a concern, but the Chinese Government is reportedly willing to relax the laws in order to boost international trade.

Although consoles have been banned in China, gamers have still managed to buy these products via the black market stores that exist throughout the country. Meanwhile, online and smartphone games currently dominates the market.
