GAME’s recent troubles were always going to spark a move from rival retailers to try and grab all those spare gamers – and supermarket Sainsbury’s appears to have made its move.
The chain has announced not only that it has increased its video game stock but also that it has kicked off an aggressive new promotion.
Discounts on offer today include PS3 consoles for 164.99 (down from 199.99), 3DS handhelds for 124.99 (that’s 25 off) and a host of game deals including Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (17.99), Just Dance 3 (14.99), Final Fantasy XIII-2 (14.99) and a trio of 3DS games cut to 27.99 – Super Mario 3DS Land, Mario Kart 7 and Mario & Sonic at the London Olympics.
"Gaming is a key part of our entertainment offering so we are excited to be reducing prices by as much as 40 per cent for this exclusive sale," Sainsbury’s games boss Gurdeep Hunjan told Eurogamer.
"Our breadth of offer is now bigger than ever before and customers can be assured that they can get the most popular games and consoles from us at outstanding value, whilst doing their weekly shop."
