Shock! Gran Turismo 7 looking unlikely for 2014

At one stage Polyphony Digital said Gran Turismo 7 could be released in 2014. What are the chances of that happening, do you think?

If your answer was incredibly slim” or virtually none” then congratulations! You’re not daft and you’re quite right.

"We are working on the title," Gran Turismo boss Kazunori Yamauchi told Eurogamer of Gran Turismo 7. "I don’t think it’ll make this year."

He did stress, however, that his studio doesn’t currently have plans for a ‘Prologue’ taster version of GT7 and has in fact moved straight into full production.

Also confirmed is the intention to retain the car roster seen in GT6 – and that includes the ‘second tier’ standard cars.

"I doubt that we’ll be throwing away the standard cars," Yamauchi added. "Each car has its own fans. So I think we’ll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available – but basically we’re more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars."

Back in November last year Yamauchi claimed that the improved architecture on PS4 has sped up production, possibly paving the way for a 2014 release for Gran Turismo 7.

"We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7," he stated. "Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3’s architecture, but of course the PS4’s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”
