Smedley leaves Daybreak for good

John Smedley has left the studio formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment.

It was announced last month that the executive had stepped down from his role of CEO, with the plan apparently being for him to take some time off before transitioning to a different role” within the company.

However, Game Informer reports that this is not the case, with Smedley having founded a new, as-of-yet unnamed company, with Daybreak itself adding: On behalf of Daybreak, we wish Smed well in his new endeavours."

Smedley’s departure came in the aftermath ofhis public attack on Lizard Squad hacker Julias Kivimakihas, who shortly before had been spared a custodial sentence despite a long history of cyber vandalism.

Smedley took to twitter to call him a dirtbag”, a piece of garbage” and a sociopath” and state that he was coming for him”. It’s not clear whether today’s news is related to that outburst.
