Sony has confirmed it has sold over 4.2 million PlayStation VR (PSVR) systems worldwide.
The developer/publisher announced the milestone yesterday during its new direct livestream video broadcast, State of Play. The news – which takes accounts of global sales up to and including March 3rd, 2019 – was accompanied by confirmation of a raft of new VR titles for Sony’s system, including VR games set in the No Man’s Sky, Five Night At Freddie’s, and Marvel’s Iron Man universes.
“Today’s State of Play broadcast revealed release dates for a bunch of soon-to-be-released PlayStation VR games,” wrote Sony’s director of social media, Sid Shuman, on the official PS blog. “We’re also very excited to reveal that we have officially sold-through more than 4.2 million PS VR systems worldwide as of March 3, 2019. We’d like to thank our fans for the amazing support for helping us achieve the milestone. Now without further ado, on to all the great games coming to PS VR.
“PS VR owners have a lot to get excited about.”
The 14 VR games announced by Sony are: Skyworld, Falcon Age, Ghost Giant, Table of Tales, Jupiter and Mars, Everybody’s Golf VR, Blood and Truth, Trover Saves the Universe, Mini-Mech Mayhem, Vacation Simulator, Five Nights at Freddie’s VR: Help Wanted, Golem, Luna, and No Man’s Sky Beyond.
Also announced was Marvel’s Iron Man VR, which is being developed by Camouflaj exclusively for PSVR.
In other VR news, MCV had a first look at Oculus Rift S at last week’s GDC show in San Francisco, which we believe “is a landmark moment for VR as a mature platform”. The new, much-improved headset will cost just $399 (no UK price yet but with taxes, it may well hit £399). That’s the same as the outgoing model, and $200 less than the original at launch. Plus the new headset also comes with Oculus Touch controllers at that price.
