Sony quietly launches 12 GB flash-memory PS3 in US and Canada

A 12 GB flash-memory PS3 super slim model has been listed on Sony’s North American website, but the company doesn’t seem interested in creating any hubbub about it.

The launch confirms last week’s report regarding a leaked Canadian retail advertisement promoting the $199 SKU’s arrival stateside.

Curiously, beyond the listing on its website, Sony has chosen not to promote the availability in any fashion. No advertisements, no press releases – nothing.

The hardware line made its Europe debut in 2012, with Sony stating that there were no plans for a US release at the time.

The 12 GB PS3 now represents the cheapest option in the region, at $70 less than the 250GB slim model.
