Perfect World Entertainment has confirmed the day on which it will flick the free-to-play switch for Star Trek Online.
The game will be free and available to all on January 17th, Videogamer reports. Since its launch in 2010 the MMO has operated using a standard subscription model.
However, the exodus from subscription to F2P has been relentless this year, with high-profile titles such as Champions Online, City of Heroes and Lord of the Rings: Online all successfully making the switch.
Most recently SOE's DC Universe Online went F2P, and enjoyed a tremendous uplift in the process.
Notably, though, big-hitters such as World of Warcraft remain subscription based and next month's Star Wars: The Old Republic will also use the subscription model.
