Steam Workshop introduces paid mod support

Valve has opened the door for mod creators to put their work on Steam for sale.

A new post on Steam News reveals that mod makers now have the option to make money off of their wares via Steam Workshop.

A new premium mods section is up and running, with money made from purchases going directly to the creators. Valve has selected Skyrim to be the new feature’s first representative, with other games to be added soon.

Free mods will still be an option as well, but it’s too early to tell how the move will shake up the mod community and if things are heading toward a scenario where the majority of decently polished mods will cost money to pick up as premium DLC for their respective games.

Workshop introduced a system in 2011 for content creators to make money by contributing items to games – a move that has made $57m for said creators as of January.
