Super slim PS3 arrives in India "before Diwali"

Sony revealed the new super slim PS3 at its Tokyo Game Show press conference yesterday, and Sony India has today announced that the new console will make its way to India before Diwali.

The new PS3 is 25 per cent smaller and 20 per cent lighter than the current PS3 console, and it now features a top-loading Blu-ray drive with a sliding lid as opposed to the current slot loading one.

The console will be available in two models – one with a 500 GB hard drive, and the other with 12 GB flash storage. Sony will announce prices for both models closer to launch, but did hint at an affordable price point” for the 12 GB SKU.

All PS3s can be fitted with third-party 2.5-inch internal hard drives to expand storage space, although the 12 GB model will require a mounting bracket to do so. It’s unclear if the bracket will have to be purchased separately.

The 500 GB model is set for release on 28th September in Europe, while the 12 GB version arrives on 12th October. It’s likely that both models will arrive in India at the same time around October-end.

The 500 GB model is also being bundled with FIFA 13 in Europe, and while it will also be available as a bundle in India, the game may differ.
