Tanya Laird in as CEO, Resh Sidhu joins as creative advisor

Children's entertainment startup Beans Entertainment has made two top-level hires as they seek to grow the business.

Tanya Laird will be joining the company as CEO, while Resh Sidhu joins as Creative Advisor. This comes alongside Beans Entertainment heading to GDC to show off their new augmented reality app: Bean&Gone: Magic Window.

The startup was founded by Dan Clemo, who will now take the role of chief experience officer and Jason Veal, the chief technology officer. The company's goal is to launch an "evergreen" brand, based on British illustrator Richard Fowler's characters, created in the 1970's.

Laird has worked extensively across games, AR and technology, and currently sits as the vice chair of the BAME in games group, in addition to be the first immerse technology ambassador for ESL UK. We gave her an Unsung Hero award at the 2016 Women in Games awards, even.

On her appointment, Laird said: “I’m delighted to be leading a talented team of creatives and developers that are embracing digital storytelling through emerging, immersive technologies. Together we are laying the groundwork for the future of media consumption for the next digital generation and redefining the future of play.”

Sidhu joins the company from New York, where she is the creative director at AKQA. Sidhu has experience as a creative director at visual effects house Framestore, where she worked on projects for clients like HBO, Samsung, and Universal Studios. She was voted as one of the World's Most Creative Women in advertising magazine The Drum.

Sidhu added: “I’m very excited to work alongside a team delivering the next level of innovation and immersive storytelling for children. Bean&Gone has already created a wonderful universe of potential tales and characters for kids to enjoy. I look forward to playing my own role in developing these further and using technology to bring these stories to life for imaginative young minds.”

Clemo commented: “We are tremendously privileged to have Tanya and Resh join the team bringing with them so much industry knowledge, expertise and passion. We hope to lead the way in designing and developing resources that will bring families closer together through cutting edge technologies, in an environment that can currently cause families to be disconnected. We believe our rich character based narrative universe already has many of the right elements to achieve this vision.”
