Tecmo Koei says Wii U’s Hyrule Warriors will sell a million copies

One million sales and beyond – that’s the expectation Tecmo Koei has for its in-development Wii U exclusive Hyrule Warriors.

In gaming, this is a first-time collaboration,” Tecmo Koei president Yoichi Erikawa told Nikkei, as reported by Nintendo Everything. As a new entry in the Warriors series, we plan to release the game Hyrule Warriors in collaboration with Nintendo in the summer of this year.

In addition to our Warriors series fan base, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda is also a very popular series with a large fan base, and I think it will become a great new market. Because of The Legend of Zelda’s legion of fans overseas, we are aiming to sell more than one million copies worldwide.”

To date only five Wii U titles have surpassed the 1m sales barrier – New Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Luigi U and Wii Party U.

That means the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and Pikmin 3 have failed to hit the milestone.

Nintendo said last month that Wii U has to date sold 6.17m units.
