The Elder Scrolls Online won’t fit on a Blu-ray disc

Bethesda has said that it has not been able to fit The Elder Scrolls Online onto a 50GB Blu-ray disc for PS4 or Xbox One.

As well as taking up over an eighth of the available space on a standard PS4 or Xbox One hard drive, buyers have been warned to expect a big mandatory day one patch for the game.

With the console beta just around the corner, we’re sure everyone is interested to know the size of the game client in order to get your hard drives ready,” the publisher said. ESO is an incredibly massive game, both in terms of sheer scope and the data required to bring you this truly enormous experience.

At the moment, the client will exceed a 50GB Blu-ray disc which means there will also be a large day-one patch that is somewhere in the region of 15GB.”

A limited beta for the game kicks off tomorrow (April 23rd), with those lucky enough to receive an invite due to receive their emails today. Players have been told they are free to stream their gameplay, too.

Progress made in the beta will not carry over into the full game, although existing PC owners are able to migrate their data to the console builds.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on June 9th.
