The quiet success of Ubisoft’s Rocksmith

The music genre is dead, right? Erm, no, perhaps not.

Ubisoft has confirmed that music title Rocksmith has sold a very impressive 1.4m units worldwide since its release in October 2011. There have also been 3m track downloads from the game’s digital store.

The publisher is also quoting a study by Research Strategy Group that alleges that Rocksmith is the fastest way to learn to play guitar. 95 per cent of Rocksmith owners reckon the game has helped to improve their skills, apparently.

"We’re thrilled with the results," Ubisoft’s US senior VP of sales and marketing Tony Key stated.

"These studies confirm our view that Rocksmith is a huge success at teaching players real guitar skills that are highly effective and enjoyable and will last them a lifetime."
