Anyone present for the current Luminositysquad’sdebut at DreamHack Winter last year will not have been surprised to see them in the grand final at IEM Katowice over the weekend. After some consternation from fans over dropping their long-time team-mates boltz and steel just before DreamHack began, the Brazilian side showed their true potential holding Fnatic to a tough finals – despite a 0-16 loss in the groups.
In Poland last weekend, Luminosity came seeking a rematch and looked set to be changing the tides in their favour with a quick 12-3 first-half lead over Fnatic in the first game. But the Swedish champs cannot be counted out, even in such dire straits, and fought their way back through overtime to break the Brazilians’ hold on the series and claim the title. But Luminosity were not the only Latin Americans showing spirit at IEM, as old friends and fellow countrymen Tempo Storm found their place on the world stage.
