The Steam controller has almost hit the one million units sold mark

According to Valve the Steam controller is on course to hit the one million units sold milestone early next year.

That would put the controller at one million units sold in just over 12 months, after having launched in November 2015.

The Steam controller proved divisive upon its launch. Some people love the controller, and use it regularly, while others failed to see the advantage of the touch panel instead of a second analogue stick.

Valve’s Jeff Bellinghausen revealed that more than 27,000 people use the Steam Controller every day, although they are looking at ways of making that number even higher. One area they are investigating is finding different ways of promoting Steam Controller enabled games on the Steam store, without getting in the way of people who do not have a controller.

One of the more direct methods is to present customers with a ‘most popular with Steam Controller’ games list,” said Bellinghausen when speaking to Gamasutra. Titles on this list will be easily discoverable for both new purchasers as well as existing customers. We will also continue to run focused sales that highlight hand-picked controller-friendly titles.”
