MCV learns how Gameseek is experiencing the most rapid growth in its history from MD Stephen Staley.
How has the site developed since it started?
It would be impossible to list the number of improvements we have made since Gameseek first started serving the gaming public. It has had a complete overhaul in the last 12 months making it cleaner, more friendly and a good place to shop. The site is what gives the customer the first impression, but for us the back-end of the business is more important. You can have the best site in the world, but if you lack the customer care and support in the background, the customers won't come back.
What is the biggest challenge facing you in the online space?
The postal service. The amount of times we have posted orders within an hour of receiving them, only to have it arrive days late is abominable. In an ideal world we'd have our own logistics and delivery system, but that's further down the line in GameSeek's future.
What plans do you have for expansion?
We have just moved into a new automated distribution facility, so our immediate plans for expansion are already underway or have been completed.
Do you stock products aside from video games?
We started selling toys and gaming related figures back in 2010, which have done really well.
How has 2013 been for the site?
2013 has been a promising year so far, and looks to continue. The big news this past couple of months is that GameSeek has bought out Play.com's machinery from Jersey. This includes automated machines that can pack everything from games, DVDs, toys, computing, electronics and books. The machines are up to 25 metres long and up to eight metres high. It's a very exciting time for GameSeek. We are seeing rapid growth, more so that we have ever experienced before. 2013 is set to be a huge leap for us.
