The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt headed to PS4 as series makes PlayStation debut

Publish date:

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the conclusion to CD Projekt RED's RPG tale of Geralt of Rivia, will make its PlayStation debut when it is released on PS4 alongside other platforms in 2014.

The game is being developed on CDPR's proprietary next-gen-ready REDengine 3 platform, and when it was announced earlier this month, the developers promised to release it on PC and "all high-end platforms available". Since the game hasn't been announced for PS3, we assume it will not arrive on current-gen consoles.

We were thrilled when asked, several months ago, to be one of the developers who were granted early access to the PlayStation 4,” CD Projekt RED studio head Adam Badowski said.

This is the first The Witcher game to release on a PlayStation console. While the first game was exclusive to PC, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was released on Xbox 360 as the Enhanced Edition.

With Sony's new hardware and our new engine, there are no limits to what we can create in the process of realising our vision for Geralt's dark fantasy world,” CD Projekt CEO Adam Kici?ski said.

The new hardware gives us the opportunity to create something great. We are able to work with the new console from its birth and this allows our in-house REDengine 3 to push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display. The console is fresh and has some innovative solutions that we're looking forward to using in our game” Badowski added.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled for release in 2014 and has so far been confirmed for PC and PS4. We assume it will also arrive on the next-gen Xbox console, which is yet to be announced by Microsoft.
