Thinner, smaller PS3 finally confirmed

Sony has officially announced the slimline PS3 during its Gamescom press conference.

The hardware will launch worldwide during the first week of September, and is 32 per cent smaller and 36 per cent lighter. Furthermore, the machine is said to consume 34 per cent less power.

The machine was announced by Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai, and includes a 120 GB hard drive.

Intense speculation around a PS3 Slim has been building for months, with retailers telling MCV last week that stock for the current 80GB model had dried up.

The machine will retail for 249.99 in the UK, €299 in Europe, and $299 in the US.
