After skipping a brand new entry in the Need For Speed franchise in 2014, EA has announced that this year's return to the franchise will be a reboot.

In a brief announcement, the firm gave scant details on what the game will feature, but did say that 'deep customisation, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world and an immersive narrative' will all be part of the apparently self-titled game.

Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we're returning it to greatness in this reboot,” said Marcus Nilsson, executive producer at Ghost Games, which will be developing the title.

Ghost Games' first and only release to date is 2013'sNeed for Speed Rivals.

Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we've always wanted to," Nilsson added.

"We're listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”

EA added that Need For Speed would tie closely with its 'car culture community', Speedhunters.

This will seemingly entail integrating past, present and upcoming car trends and research on how to boost the game's detail level and realism.

The title is slated for a worldwide release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in Autumn of this year.
