Top 100 Women in Games: Diane Hutchinson

As someone who followed technology and gaming closely since she was a young girl, a move into the games industry always seemed a natural fit for Diane Hutchinson.

Such a transition came – in Hutchinson’s words – ‘many years ago’, when she began to produce video reviews for iPhone games. As a result of the quality of her work, she was then invited to run a gaming website – before starting her very own site, GirlGamersUK, in 2009.

A great source of pride for Hutchinson, GirlGamersUK – for which the motto is ‘It’s not all cooking and pony training!’ – has evolved with the constantly shift games industry.

However, Hutchinson says her greatest pride is getting to be part of the games industry itself, as well as the people she has had the chance to work with throughout her career.

Despite nearly a decade of 24/7 exposure to video games and technology, Hutchinson’s passion for the games industry is yet to falter – and she still feels a buzz of excitement at something new.

One of the developments she is most excited about is virtual reality – the implications it could have for the end user could be the next big leap in video game evolution.

GirlGamersUK has been Hutchinson’s life for the last six years, and will continue to be a part of her. But she says that the time has come for something new. While she may not know what that is yet, she’s sure it will involve video games.

She says: It is a fast moving industry that keeps getting bigger and more interesting, so I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
