UK CHARTS: FIFA 11 topples Black Ops

It’s a New Year and we have a new UK Number One. Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops has seen its reign at the top of the listings disrupted for the second time with EA’s FIFA 11 overtaking it to claim the weekly crown.

In the last week of November Sony’s Gran Turismo 5 was able to dislodge the war shooter for one week, only for Black Ops to reclaim the crown the following week and hold it all the way through to Christmas.

Still, the ultra-successful Black Ops has claimed six No.1’s in total, which is more than any other title in 2010 though less than the undisturbed eight weeks predecessor Modern Warfare 2 enjoyed at the top.

Elsewhere in the charts, Microsoft’s Kinect Sports continues its resurgence by climbing two places to sixth while Dance Central smashes back into the Top Ten. Meanwhile, Ubisoft’s fellow Kinect outing Your Shape: Fitness Evolved successfully taps into the New Year fitness market by entering the Top 40 at number 24.

Two other Kinect titles also enter the charts – Microsoft’s Kinectimals (36th) and Ubisoft’s Motion Sports (37th).

Here’s the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top Ten in full (for the week ending January 1st):
1. FIFA 11 (EA)
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
3. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (EA)
4. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft)
5. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft)
6. Kinect Sports (Microsoft)
7. Gran Turismo 5 (Sony)
8. The Sims 3 (EA)
9. Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda)
10. Dance Central (Microsoft)

In last week’s chart there was little change at the top, with big success for both EA and Ubisofot. The former claimed four of the UK’s Top Ten games and the latter three. Chart-Track adds that it was the biggest week of the year in unit sales terms and the second largest in revenue terms.

And here’s the Top Ten for the week ending December 25th:
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
2. FIFA 11 (EA)
3. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (EA)
4. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft)
5. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft)
6. Gran Turismo 5 (Sony)
7. The Sims 3 (EA)
8. Kinect Sports (Microsoft)
9. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Ubisoft)
10. Medal of Honor (EA)
