UK CHARTS: Mafia II goes top

2K Games is officially the Don of the UK Charts this week with news that new release Mafia II has shot straight to the top of the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 this week.

The Xbox 360 version of the game accounts for 52 per cent of sales, with PS3 claiming 41 per cent and the PC seven per cent. The release blitzes the performance of the first game, which sold just 29 per cent of the volumes seen on this new release.

Last week’s chart-topper, Square Enix’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days has to settle for second spot, despite a 1/3 jump in sales week-on-week.

Elsewhere in the Top Ten there’ a re-entry of City Interactive’ Sniper: Ghost Warrior, which claims its highest UK finish ever – ninth. Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort shoots from 16th to fifth thanks to some very competitive deals currently available on Nintendo’s console on the High Street this week.

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 threatens to re-enter the Top Ten yet again, climbing from 18th to 12th and there’s a re-entry at number 27 for Nintendo’s ever popular Mario Kart Wii.

EA’s Madden slips down to 34th in its third week of release while there are re-entries for Activision’s Blur (32nd), Microsoft’s Halo 3 (36th) and Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV (37th).
