UK CHARTS: Prototype goes top

The reign of EA’s The Sims 3 at the top of the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 is over, with Activision Blizzard’s free-roaming superhero romp Prototype climbing one position to claim its crown.

Activision’s title, which is the first from the publisher to grab the top spot in 2009, does so despite a 20 per cent dip in sales, thanks mostly to a strong performance on Microsoft’s console – Xbox 360 scooped 61 per cent of the sales, with PS3 claiming 36 per cent.

Atari’s PlayStation-only Ghostbusters manages 4th in its first week of general release, with PS3 capturing 98 per cent of the total sales, leaving its brother the PS2 to clean up the rest.

Elsewhere in the listings the release of the new MotionPlus-compatible Wii SKU of Virtua Tennis 2009 sees Sega’s title claw back into the Top Ten on the week that Wimbledon takes over the UK’s TV sets. EA’s Grand Slam Tennis does the same, improving three places to claim 10th.

The only other new entry this week is 505 Games’ Arma II in 19th, though there are re-entries for Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 (20th) and Eidos’ LEGO Batman in 40th.
