UK CHARTS: Sega cements 08 chart supremacy

In a year that has so far served up a number of different number ones, Sega’s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has started to take control of the ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 by capturing the top spot for a third time.

Whereas it was the title’s DS release that saw it pole-vault up the listings last week, this time it’s a fresh supply of the Wii version that sees the title outperform its rivals at retail.

Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which sold just a quarter of the units shifted by Mario & Sonic, claims second spot, one place ahead of Nintendo’s Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training which secures its highest position of the year so far.

Capcom’s Devil May Cry follows in fourth position followed by Nintendo’s Wii Play, Midway’s chart climber Game Party for Wii and Disney’s dinosaur slasher Turok.

Midway enjoys further success with the PS3 release of Unreal Tournament III seeing Epic’s action-packed FPS climb to ninth, whilst EA’s FIFA Street 3 debuts just outside the top ten at number 11.

Also note the strong performance from 505 Games’ Cooking Mama 2, which climbs from 33rd to 12th.
