UK games market continues to rise

The UK video games market’s weekly value continues to rise this week following a slew of new releases, including Guitar Hero: Metallica, Virtua Tennis and Infamous.

According to MCV calculations, based on today’s Gfk-ChartTrack/ELSPA weekly report, the UK market has hit 22.8 million for the week ending May 30th, with 967,400 units of software sold.

It’s a five per cent rise over last week’s result, which saw the market bounce back from its lowest reported figure for almost two years.

The growth is set to continue for another week at least, with THQ’s Red Faction and the highly anticipated The Sims 3 due for release this Friday.

Despite the growth, the UK games market is still down year-on-year, although the promise of a busy summer could provide a boost for the industry.
