Forget the doom and gloom on the High Street. UK games retailers generated 268m in software sales last month.

That's a 1.7 per cent rise over November 2010.

GfK Chart-Track figures show that 8,261,205 games were sold last month. The No.1 game will surprise nobody, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sitting comfortably at the top. Activision became the No.1 publisher for the month for the first time in almost a year.

Perhaps more surprising is that Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim beat off competition from Battlefield 3 and Assassin's Creed: Revelations to become November's second biggest seller. The RPG flourished despite coming out the same week as CoD.

Most games were sold on Microsoft's Xbox 360. The console had a 47.1 per cent software market share in terms of value.

Meanwhile, DS, Wii, 3DS and PS3 increased their software market share for the month.Turn to page 23 for an in-depth look at the November charts data.
