Bungie is likely to miss out on a Quality Bonus” totaling $2.5m over inadequate review scores for Destiny, according to a new report.
Kotaku points to a clause in the 10-year contract Bungie signed with Activision in 2010 that states the first Destiny title would need a score of 90 or higher on GameRankings within 30 days of release on Xbox 360” to ensure the contract incentive.
Activision has declined to comment on the contents of the contract, but Kotaku understands that it has been reworked at least once since the initial copy from 2010. However if the clause is still in place, it appears Bungie may fall short of its goal – Destiny currently carries a 77 on Metacritic and 76.29 per cent on GameRankings.
The Xbox 360 bit is specifically mentioned because that was the only platform the game was announced for back when the clause was written – the PlayStation 3 version wasn't confirmed at the time, and current-gen consoles had yet to be officially unveiled.
Destiny is currently available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
