Universal, Lionsgate and MGM team up with Asian mobile firm Fifth Journey

Hong Kong-based mobile games company Fifth Journey has signed partnerships with Universal Pictures, Lionsgate and MGM.

These deals will see the firm produce mobile games, interactive entertainment and VR titles for properties from the film studios for a global market, specifically Asia.

Fifth Journey was founded by former Universal, Gameloft and LucasArts execs, who are trying to bring Hollywood properties to the Asian market.

In August 2015, the company raised $2 million in seed funding, and signed a deal with Lionsgate and Milennium Films to developer a mobile title based on The Expendables.

Asia is an enormous opportunity and challenge for Hollywood,” Fifth Journey CEO Eric Tan (pictured)said.

So is building a great film franchise in this on demand world. We built a company to solve some of Hollywood’s most pressing needs and these partnerships are a huge step forward.”

Peter Levin, Lionsgate’s president of interactive ventures and games, added: We’re delighted to expand our partnership with Eric Tan and the Fifth Journey team.

"As we continue to build our presence in the gaming space, the Asian market offers tremendous growth opportunities, and Fifth Journey is the ideal partner to help us capitalise on them.”
