UPDATE: GT Academy coming to India in February

Update:We’ve just received an invite (image below) from Sony for a joint press conference with Nissan, where the two companies will announce plans for GT Academy in India

The press conference will be held in Delhi on 4th February.

Original story:

GT Academy, a collaboration between Sony and Nissan that turns Gran Turismo players into real life race car drivers, is coming to India, reports Overdrive.

The GT Academy has been around since 2008, and has turned gamers into successful professional race car drivers.

According to Overdrive, GT Academy will come to India on 4th February (a day before Auto Expo 2014 kicks off)and there will only one qualifier from India. He/she will then compete against others from around the world.

GT Academy picks out the best gamers through the times they set in Gran Turismo games on PS3. A select bunch is then put through rigorous training in real world racing, before the very best is selected as the GT Academy champion.

Past GT Academy winners have embarked on successful racing careers. Lucas Ordonez, winner of the first GT Academy, stood on the podium at the legendary Nurburgring, and earlier this month, the Nissan GT Academy 2013 team won the inaugural Dubai 24 Hours race.

We’ve contacted Sony for more details on GT Academy and we’ll have an update once we know more.
