Valve to reveal Steam VR hardware and final Steam Controller design at GDC

A big new player will enter the virtual reality arena next week.

Valve has confirmed that it will use GDC to reveal what is described as a "previously-unannounced SteamVR hardware system".

Although nothing is known of the new hardware as of yet, Valve’s dominance in the PC games sector means it will likely be looking to take on the likes of Oculus Rift, Project Morpheus and Windows Hololens as opposed to smaller players such as Samsung’s Gear VR, Razer’s OSVR or the Archos VR Glasses.

The confirmation of its final design for the Steam Controller seems long overdue, too, with its initial unveiling having occurred way back in 2013. It has since undergone several revisions.

Valve also says it will use GDC to show off new living room devices”, which presumably means its MIA Steam Machines(s) will also be getting another airing. The first Steam Machines were supposed to have hit retail last year.

GDC kicks off on March 4th.
