VIDEO: Sid Meier’s Starships takes strategy to space

2K and Firaxis Games have announced the next title from Sid Meier – Starships.

GameSpot reports that the turn based strategy title is due out in early 2015 on PC, Mac and iPad. It is being developed by Meier and a small team at Firaxis.

Players will control a fleet of vessels tasked with establishing a planetary federation, protecting planets and engaging in deep-space combat. Some of the missions will be dynamically generated, too, adding to the game’s replayability.

It will also offer an as-of-yet unspecified level of cross-connectivity with Civilization: Beyond Earth.

"When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth," Meier said.

"What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?"

"My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration."
